Hey #MathSky did anyone here have, or work on/work with, an NSF-VIGRE grant back in the day?

I'm interested in resources re: "vertical integration" models (postdocs/grad students/undergrads), how they've stood the test of time (or not) & how it might look in today's contexts.

A side-lit blue-gray compound of five cubes 400 feet across and having overall icosahedral symmetry hovers over a late-wintry body of water bordered by jutting, evergreen-covered shores. On a flat dun area in the middle distance, barely-visible figures walk beneath the cubes' bottom vertex.

Black and white portrait of Tullio Levi-Civita, circa 1900. He is shown almost from the waist up, wearing metal-rimmed glasses, a dark jacket with a white collar, and a tie. His hair is cut short and neatly trimmed, as is his moustache. His expression is almost austere.

The most challenging part of putting this problem in video or book form was to think up a scenario where subtraction is not allowed. I started out with measuring water with jugs, but subtraction is so easy there it’s kind of ridiculous that we’d artificially disallow it. #MathSky #StorySaturday
