The image shows a circular structure in the desert of Mauretania. Seen from above it consists of a number of concentric rings. It is a geological structure with a complex history of uplifting, intrusion, erosion, sedimentation and again erosion. Also known as The Eye of the Sahara once it was thought that maybe it was an impact crater, but research showed it to be an eroded uplifted dome.
