#OnThisDay 312 C.E. Rival #Roman Emperors #Maxentius and #Constantine met in battle at the #MilvianBridge outside Rome. According to later accounts, prior to the battle Constantine was sent a vision by the Christian God, promising him victory if he would fight under the name of Christ.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 312, #Constantine I beat #Maxentius at the #BattleOfMilvianBridge and became sole emperor in the #WesternRomanEmpire. Christians later claimed he saw a #ChiRo in the sky and won because of Christ's support, but #Roman sources do not support this idea.
