One of the main takeaways of this new paper is that we find (once again) #mesophotic (deep) coral reefs to be unique and subject to unique forces and stressors. Thus, they need to be considered as such when developing protections for them! Also: there is no easy way out. We must reduce emissions!

We looked at crab communities throughout Hawai‘i and down a 90 m depth gradient. They were more different across depth on one island than they were across the entire ~2,500 km stretch of the archipelago on shallow reefs.

Shining a light on some of the most beautiful works of nature, products of evolution over time. Looking forward to sharing more on my upcoming expedition to Micronesia 🧜‍♀️🪸📝🤓
