The principal investigator of the #microANT project, Dr. Luis Cardona, presented the objectives and work carried out during the Antarctic campaign to the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, who visited the facilities of the JCI Antarctic base on Livingston Island.

At Livingston Island (BAE 🇦🇶JCI), to sample the concentration and transfer of microplastics in the benthic trophic web, we use trammel nets.We have started fishing for specimens of benthic fish #Nototenia_sp #microANT #AgenciaEspañolaInvestigción @ub.edu @irbio-ub.bsky.social @ubdivulga.bsky.social

We leave the high latitudes of Bahía Margarita and the Gerlache Strait and return to Bransfield. Samples collected: surface water, krill 🦐, and feces from Weddell seals 🦭, crabeater seals, leopard seals, and Adélie penguins 🐧. #microANT -Ministerio Ciencia @ub.edu @irbio-ub.bsky.social

At Avian Island (Antarctica-67S),we sampled a colony of Adélie penguins.
As they feed on krill, the analysis of their feces will determine microplastics concentration and study they transfer along the food web. #microANT @ub.edu @irbio-ub.bsky.social @manelgazo.bsky.social @odeigg.bsky.social

We begin sampling krill and mesopelagic fish in the Bransfield Strait 🇦🇶. The stomach contents will provide us with data on microplastic ingestion and will help us understand the transfer to the rest of the marine food web. #microANT Project: @miteco.gob.es @ub.edu @irbio-ub.bsky.social
