I love that my mincup pick this year lost almost the worst that it's possible to lose. I'm no good at maths so idk if any other candidates lost as badly but not only did chrysotile lose round 1, but the winner of THAT matchup was defeated, AND AGAIN, and I just think that's beautiful 😊 #mincup2025

Hematite is my favorite! Not only is it shiny and black when polished (oh my goth), but it's name comes frome the Greek root for BLOOD because of the red mark it leaves behind. Due to its reddish hue and wide availablity, it was used in cave paintings across the world! #TeamHematite #MinCup2025

maw-sit-sit, a rock which contains kosmochlor. It's intensely green.
I'm on team #kosmochlor for this poll, and for the entire #mincup2025, it's my pick for champion.
It's name is German-Greek fusion for "SpaceGreen". It was first described in a meteor, and it just looks like something that a 60's scifi movie would make with special effects.

Dioptase is beautifuller
Photos don’t tend to capture well the splendent lustre of the highly reflective crystal faces and the deep green colour.

a glass plate is held vertically by index finger and thumb in the picture frame. On it is a semi-translucent rock slide, grinded down to approximately 30 microns. The mineral assemblage is a mix of mostly translucent pristine and light-brown alterated calcite with long, feather-like crystal shapes. Dotted around as undefined blobs are dark brown to black opaque oxide minerals. It's a thinsection of a intrusive carbonatite from the Kaiserstuhl volcanoc complex, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

One of the main reason to vote for both are exotic melts, undersaturated or devoid of SiO2. Like this carbonatite from the Kaiserstuhl volcanic complex I made into a big thinsection!

Primary structures are silicate plates
Secondary structures, th plates either stack, roll up into laminar tubes or even more complex.
Tiertiary atructures the tubes stack to form th wavy fibrous serpentine/asbestos.

Y'all can call me weird if you want but it's been a hard year and my health has been bad and the election sucked and the administration sucks more and I find myself craving #mincup2025. It's like if we can just spend a few weeks rooting for our favorite rocks, everything will be better. Am I wrong?
