#MinCup
Should do a fossorial mammal lineup & crossover with #MinCup, we can get #RockCarnage too.
#MinCup has never been described quite like that before.
More #MinCup, less crystal shit
I think single location and single instance minerals should comprise #mincup one of these years.
Also, this is super cool.:

But not behind #mincup
A Lego representation of the mineral rhodochrosite sitting on a brown wooden stand, also made of Lego. The rhodochrosite is semi-translucent red cubes jumbled together on a bed of black Lego with small spurs of clear secondary minerals.
An actual specimen of rhodochrosite. It is formed of semitranslucent red crystals in a cubic shape. The cubes grow off one another and intersect at odd angles.
The fifth specimen is rhodochrosite---the famed "meat rock" of #MinCup 2023.
permissive, and it's their word more than mine.
The #mincup competition for Best Mineral is held every September and is great fun if you don't get too emotionally attached to your chosen mineral.
Could be limonite (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limonite). It offen forms these kinds of bubbly surfaces.
I'll repost to engage more geoscoentists ☺️. Hey #MinCup bubble, what do you think? ⚒️
I know #chemsky was dabbling in the #mincup @mineralcup.bsky.social . Now we have our own bracket. Vote for your favorite chempics!
#Copper
Learning about Old Copper Culture in North America ca. 4000-1500 BC. I should know about this — born and living in Wisconsin — but apparently not covered in grade school or high school history classes.
So THANKS! #MinCup #OreCup #OreCup25

You’ve heard of the #MinCup — now get ready for the #OreCup, which starts today! Our first pick is #copper, which humans have been mining, using, and discarding for thousands of years: eos.org/articles/500...
If you thought Mineral Cup Month would have been better if they just skipped the first two rounds and went straight to the quarter-finals you will probably enjoy its spin-off Ore Cup.
Same if you thought MinCup was great fun and you wish there was more.

For once I have both mins in my collection! (Ignore the fur-covered cat tree.)
1/3 of my cats posed for photos. They all received treats after the grueling sitting next to a mineral. Copper-hued Hugs is MVP, Obsidian sort of posed, and Leia did her own thing.

Pennsylvania copper from Adams County. On the left is a polished orb, on the right is dendritic copper.
Dancing llama dendritic copper from Houghton County, Michigan.
Crystalline copper ball within white mineral cavity.
Copper with squiggly branches from a mass, there is some color variation from fresh orange and red to slightly tarnished green.
Michigan has historically been a source for beautiful, and useful, #copper. Specifically, the Upper Peninsula contains the largest native copper deposits!
Copper from Carnegie Natural History and Cranbrook Institute.

For anyone else who feels weird to not be hyping up a mineral today after a month of #MinCup, here's an excellent outlet.
Darn it! I missed #MinCup this year because I haven't been active on Mastodon, where I had been participating.
I take some small comfort that your banner shows rhodochrosite, my son's favorite mineral. 😁
About time that #Kyanite joined the exalted ranks of #MinCup champions! Well done #TeamKyanite, thank you all for voting. #MinCup25
Congratz for the only second blue mineral to win #MinCup!
This year was all on blue, with strong contenders like azurite and haüyne sadly being eliminated one by one. But Kyanite withstood and thrived under the pressure - as it's its nature.
Volunteering is so worth it (although I did not have as much time as I would have liked this year). #MinCup behind the scenes is so much more exciting 😍
