These are SIDE EFFECTS.

We meditate to train ourselves to become the masters of our minds. To have it serve us. Most people have it backwards.

After the first mouthfuls, I assess my state of mind. If my mind is very active, I bring myself back to pure sense impressions to calm it. The guidance is to chew each mouthful 40 times.
