The Ring-Top Cowrie (Monetaria annulus) is one of the most common seashells. There are, however, some rarer subspecies/forms. This purplish form is referred to as 'meli' from Madagascar. The specimen is exceptionnal in having dark markings.

A dark Tiger Cowrie presents a large, black bump on its dorsum. The shiny shell has a reddish-yellow background colour and is covered with black spots. The 'bump' is nearly totally black.

This Tiger Cowrie (Cypraea tigris) had a piece of coral growing on its dorsum. I figure it was injured for a while. Eventually, the mantle deposited shell material over the coral and gave the bump a more natural colouration.
