This photo was taken at dusk from the Rooftop Gardens that overlook Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin. This is where Otis Redding's plane crashed in 1967. The lake is behind me, along with a memorial placque. Directly in front of me to the right is an oversized bowl shaped fountain that is underlit. Below is a city block with nighttime lights, and at the far end stands the large illuminated capital building. Made entirely of granite, its dome is the largest in the United States. The sky is darkening. I visited this location to remember Otis Redding 33 yrs after his death. I sat for a long time in the Rooftop Gardens staring at the lake. I was a teenager when he died, but I remember the sadness I felt. "Try A Little Tenderness" and other songs of his touched my soul. 💜
