Pale yellow pinesap. Multiple blossoms dangle from its raceme. In the background is another pinesap that's a little further along with mostly spent flowers.
Pinesap with a darker pink coloring. It's past its flowering stage and is in the fruiting stage. People often misidentify pinesap at this stage as Hypopitys lanuginosa due to the red stems, but pinesap turns increasingly red as it ages.
Dried pinesap is fully brown in color. The fruit has fully ripened and it's gone to seed.
Pinesap in fruiting stage.
A pile of pinesap photos, Monotropa hypopitys, a parasitic plant that doesn't typically crop up until a forest has lasted at least 90 years without a major disturbance.
