Arhopalus rusticus. Long Melford, Suffolk

Arhopalus rusticus (Dusky Longhorn Beetle). Five of these large (25mm) and impressive longhorn beetles were attracted to my moth trap last night. The literature says that they were formerly a Scottish species that has spread south using conifer plantations. #longmelford #suffolk

Also, from the trap this morning. Demetrias atricapillus. That makes the 'moth trap intruders' list 24 spp so far this year.

Nicrophorus humator from the trap in Filton this morning. I regularly see them on Exmoor, but not here.

2 of my favourite 'Not Moths' in the trap this morning in Black Sexton Beetle and Large Caddisfly. Two very impressive and chunky insects and always a surprise to see

Blown into my greenhouse this evening where my light trap is running, the attractive migrant fly, Stomorhina lunata.

This one is a female (males having orange patches on the abdomen).

Such mesmerising eyes.

Sylvicola fuscatus appears to be well and truly established in my area (North Essex).

Had several this and last year now.

Lindbergina aurovittata, I believe.

Attracted to my actinic lights last night (in a sheltered spot, out of the 50+ mph gusts).

Cinnamon Sedge, Limnephilus marmoratus

Cinnamon Sedge, Limnephilus marmoratus

Only 10/5 moths after a chilly night, so the highlight of this morning's trap was this rather lovely Cinnamon Sedge, Limnephilus marmoratus.
