What was the carbon footprint of the event as 2000K people drove into downtown to eat a lot of meat. How does that impact the #Mpls2040 plans?

Same thing that they did to shut down #Mpls2040 for years. Will end up in courts for years and the advantage is they SOS asshats are rich lawyers who don't care about wasting their money.

Minneapolis zoning reforms were recognized by the US Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen, yesterday at beautiful new Public Housing apartment in S Mpls🥳🥳
Thx to Connor C for attending and representing N4MN!

Fascinating (rare) variant on the classic Mpls pattern of ~ 5000' lots, where two blocks were divided into 7000 + 3000 lots. (Fun fact: for all the supposed reforming spirit of #Mpls2040 it doesn't allow 3000' lots. The harm to the public minimum lot sizes prevent are not clear)

Here’s another one around 38th St station, where #Mpls2040 assumes a 1 minute walkshed for a high capacity light rail line. I’m being unkind, but that’s about as far as they let 6 story buildings go.

For all that #Mpls2040 was open to minor to moderate reforms in what kinds of housing you could build it remained very conservative in allowing truly mixed use neighborhoods to develop. Hopefully we can change that in the next plan.

Mostly #Mpls2040 was unambitious in letting neighborhoods gradually get denser, preserving existing character. And yet there are areas of low density single family homes and duplexes marked as Corridor 4. The areas marked Interior 1 & 2, and Corridor 4 here all look like this

This building meets Minneapolis' optimum sunset angle requirements, passed in a little known #Mpls2040 clause

All apartment buildings should be angled to catch the sunset like this. Might submit that with my #Mpls2040 built form comments. "Optimum sunset angle requirements." It'll work as well as minimum parking requirements 😉

This gorgeous 4 unit condo building (4701 Grand) appears to have ~7,500 of living space for 4 families on a 7000 square foot. So of course it appears that #Mpls2040 designates it as Interior 2 so you couldn't rebuild this structure.

I've been running a lot of these areas lately in S. Minneapolis, and hoo boy is it clear how the #Mpls2040 built form map largely reinscribed existing socioeconomic segregation, and did not challenge it

It's going to be interesting watching planners struggle with the legacy of the technical and rational veneer they placed over exclusionary zoning as Minneapolis implements #Mpls2040.

It's great that #Mpls2040 will (soon) abolish off-street parking requirements, but I worry (and not just as chair of my neighborhood association's transportation committee) that the city won't follow through quickly on the other Donald Shoup recommendation: Charge for curb spaces

One of the disappointing things about #Mpls2040 was council members being easily cowed into reducing the by right height limits from 3 to 2.5 in much of the city. And yet here in NE Mpls is a 3 story building going up beside the 1 story portion of a home. A 2 floor difference!

Yet more evidence that motor vehicle emissions are really bad for children's health, so remind me why #Mpls2040 still mostly restricts larger multi-unit dwellings to busy roads

#Mpls2040 is good, but liberalizing zoning at the metropolitan, state or national level is probably the right path forward in many places.

Today we'll find out if #Mpls2040 is looking to the future, or just accepting the redlined maps of Minneapolis 1940. If we #upzoneKenwood rich people will have slightly smaller lawns and slightly more rich neighbors. Some of them might take the train to work. That's all.

It was depressing watching the Minneapolis City Council mostly strengthen their good words in #mpls2040 about equity and climate change, and then mostly take it all back with specific proposals that very little should change in more areas of the city.

One of the oft-used arguments against #mpls2040 is that it's a "giveaway to developers and builders". I get it. Developers and builders have a poor reputation, though for different reasons.

Both of these streets are about 2 minutes walk from an actual or proposed Green Line stop. But one is Transit 10 and the other is Interior 2 in #mpls2040. We must #UpzoneKenwood

Wow, the "expropriate expensive golf courses" for housing testifier is back for #Mpls2040 at the City Council.

I think one of the interesting (genuinely, no Minnesota interesting) things about the #Mpls2040 debate is that our current density is probably just below what is necessary to support better transit and walkable neighborhood business.

Started reading through the revised #Mpls2040 plan tonight in advance of the Lynnhurst meeting and am finding myself getting twitchy again.
