Canceling #NCA6 is short-sighted.

Trump is trying to bury climate change, despite the overwhelming evidence it is happening now.

It's certain that he will ultimately be seen as foolish, and that may be soon as rising temperatures, extreme storms, wildfires, etc. become even more apparent.

The authors of the #NCA6, a congressionally mandated climate report, were all dismissed from their volunteer roles in what was a “gut-wrenching” and “disempowering” move.

The report isn’t technically cancelled, but its future is highly uncertain.

The #NCA6 would have been the first to have included a national security chapter, where tree-hugging hippies like myself probably would have discussed the implications of climate change for economic security, military preparedness, and great power competition. You know, BS woke stuff.

So wasteful.

In 2017, I and all members of the Sustained National Climate Assessment Federal Advisory Committee were dismissed when the committee was allowed to sunset after 1 of 2 planned terms.

Today I and all the #NCA6 authors were released from the #NationalClimateAssessment. Not unexpected but still hurts.

Trump moves to hobble major US climate change study The cuts are a potentially fatal blow to the National Climate Assessment that Congress mandated to ensure the government understands the threats posed by rising temperatures.

I can't say this was unexpected, but it is deeply, deeply disappointing nonetheless. The #NCA6 is now up in the air - at best.

Some problems go away on their own. This is not one of them.

It is coming. It's already here. You can either be prepared or unprepared.

Climate science is complex, as are human systems. Our #NCA6 challenge: convey that complexity in language Americans understand. The #IPCC Summary for Policymakers? Written ~6 grade levels too high for most audiences. We must do better.
