The Lone Gunmen was a spin-off of The X-Files. In the pilot, the heroes (who run a conspiracy theory magazine) uncover a secret plan by rogue agents of the U.S. government to remotely hijack a large passenger airliner, crash it into the World Trade Center, and blame it on terrorists in order to justify a new, profitable war. Notably, the episode was aired six months before the 9/11 attacks.
