If your or your family are family are facing a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Megan Hetherington — Northern Ireland’s first Pancreatic Cancer Support Nurse, is here to help. Talking about her new role Megan explains “Everyday could be different depending on what each person needs from me. It is an extremely versatile role. Should it be sitting with a patient while their carer goes to get some time for themselves. My time and attention is theirs and it is about evaluating each need and coming up with things that can ease their pressures. My top priority is to create awareness of this role and what it is about. To create more support groups for patients and families and to create a bereaved families support group. To build relationships with patients and their families and to improve their journeys in whatever way I can. I am excited to work alongside Kingsbridge also. I would like to develop a training programme/evening for the Kingsbridge nurses in how they can support patients and families diagnosed with any form of cancer in their clinics.
