Nocturnal #VIIRS Day/Night Band image from @noaa.gov #NOAA21 revealed mesospheric airglow waves propagating radially outward from Category 4 Cyclone #Narelle as it approached Australia's Cape York Peninsula.
VIIRS Day/Night Band imagery from @noaa.gov #SuomiNPP, #NOAA20 and #NOAA21 showed the effect of last night's #TotalLunarEclipse2026 -- more on the CIMSS Satellite Blog: cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/satellite-bl...
#VIIRS Infrared images from #SuomiNPP and #NOAA21 showed widespread ice leads in the Chukchi Sea during 6-8 January. A combination of ocean currents and wind stress influenced the motion and evolution of these ice leads.
However, higher spatial resolution VIIRS data from #noaa20, #noaa21 and #suomiNPP indicated that maximum volcanic ash heights were in the 16-18 km range (darker purple).
#NOAA21 #VIIRS GeoColor images (with an overlay of Fire Radiative Power) at 1755 UTC & 1943 UTC on July 10 showed a large wildfire in western Ontario that produced a significant #pyrocumulonimbus cloud - more on the CIMSS Satellite Blog: cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/satellite-bl...
The image shows a set of asymmetric swirls in a vast field of clouds with mainly a cell-structure. The swirls are Vo Lármán vortices. At bottom are the Canary Islands with a clear sky below them (downwind). At lower right a bit of th Sahara desert in northwestern Africa is visible. In the centre of the image a few fine parallel lines in the cloud cover can be seen. These are gravity waves.
Von Kármán vortices downwind from #Madeira island in the Atlantic Ocean, imaged by satellite #NOAA21 this afternoon. Also some gravity waves are visible. Original wvs.earthdata.nasa.gov/api/v1/snaps... @wed-explorer.bsky.social
