A4: It's really key to help students focus on the structure of the story, and NOT resort to calculation compulsion. Removing the numbers is one way. Another is to leave them, but focus conversation/#NoticeWonder on "tell me something about the story." #ElemMathChat
A4: We could remove the numbers. "Grae 3 raised some money. Grade 4 raised less money. Together they raised some money. #NoticeWonder about the story." #ElemMathChat
A2: Oh, boy, that word "curious" is doing so much work! That's why the #NoticeWonder routine includes "wonder" - that can encompass things you are curious about, not just things you don't know. That can really open it up for kids (and adults). #ElemMathChat
3 bumper stickers on a white Volvo with numbers 13.1, 48.6, and 26.2.
Math-y bumper stickers (spotted at a stoplight).
What do you notice? What do you wonder?

Oh, pressure's on! Pretty sure I can work #NoticeWonder in there somewhere...Also excited to visit Duluth for the first time.
A5 for HQIM I want these embedded: #NoticeWonder, 5 practices, Routine Routines for Reasoning, visuals, collaborations, way more context experiences and less naked number practice, & supports for educators. I also do not want text heavy in the in between places for teachers & students. #ElemMathChat
Two photographs from a snowy patio. The top one and bottom one show the difference between all snow and the subsequent freezing rain in changing the shape of snow stop a table and a small chair.

A2 Adding #NoticeWonder brings curiousity to any activity. Curiosity brings playfulness. I have done Solve Me Puzzles, Visual Patterns, Magie Pierces Problems of the day that are puzzles and more. We have also played with Stello, Set, Spot It, Prime Climb and more. #elemmathchat
Thanks for highlighting this, Mike. I think it's a critical aspect of #NoticeWonder.
(And yes, in my workshop I argued that you should just give the kids the first picture and let them #NoticeWonder, instead of asking/expecting them to read the textbook.)
Let’s hang out and #NoticeWonder together today, friends!
You're right that we don't judge student #NoticeWonder in the moment. But right now we're pondering historical documents. We have the time, long after the fact! #ElemMathChat

A5: and I also must admit that when someone tells me the specific ways in which #NoticeWonder has transformed their classroom learning community, I think that's pretty awesome. #ElemMathChat
Love collecting on data when coaching Melynee. So powerful when the #NoticeWonder what I collect.
We just did #NoticeWonder with Teacher Leaders and the data from their most recent summative assessment. Eye opening to see what they #NoticeWondered.
I met a principal and an interventionist at @cmcmath in Asilomar who had their teachers/colleagues #NoticeWonder about data. The first as a convo starter. The second to start MTSS convos about improving Tier 1 instruction. #ElemMathChat
Love using #NoticeWonder Annie. I use it in combo with so many things these days as well.
A1: I think the #NoticeWonder police might make a note if I don't say I'd start by asking students to #NoticeWonder about something that might start a convo related to our math goal for the day/week. #ElemMathChat
