Loved taking part in the first round of the @nycmidnight.bsky.social screenwriting competition this past week. It’s a great creative exercise that I so look forward to each year. Wish they would bring the short screenwriting competition back!

After juggling life events all weekend, and some prickly prompts, I'm finally sitting on an outline for NYCMidnight's #ScreenwritingChallenge that might just work (IT BETTER!). Now on to writing pages! HUZZAH!

Tonight the fun begins! This is from last year’s Round 1 winner. It went on to be an AFF second rounder and win a bunch of Shorts screenwriting contests. (Note it also lost some!) This well be expanded to a feature later this year.

I realized today that we’re just shy of 9 days before prompts drop for @nycmidnight.bsky.social Screenwriting Challenge. I swear I checked the countdown last week and it said we had 40 days 😂

Roll call time! #scriptsky! Who’s joining in on the fun this year?

After spending ALLLLL day working on one story idea for #ScreenwritingChallenge, the last minute logline I threw together for an entirely different idea is far, far more fun... Soo I'm gonna go with that. #NYCMSWC #ScriptSky

With prompts dropping, for #ScreenwritingChallenge, here's a #FirstPageFriday of my short Which Witch, which originated as my 1st round entry in last year’s competition. I pulled Fairytail and end up with a sweet story of a witch finding her own way. #NYCMSWC

First page of a short script titled “How’ll We Survive” written by Nick Wasilieff.

EXT. OLD GLORY GENERATIONAL SPACESHIP

Long. Cylindrical. Aged. A blue domed tip and eight rings alternating red and white, each with a letter of 'OLD GLORY' forms the ship's body. The 'L' in GLORY is scuffed off. The ship hovers in Earth's orbit.

THE MOON SHINES. FULL. BRIGHT.

INT. OLD GLORY - GRAND LOBBY

A FEMALE REPORTER (40, power suit, power hungry) holds firm amongst DOZENS OF PEOPLE SCARED FOR THEIR LIVES. Microphone in hand. She gazes toward a camera. SCREAMS, GROWLS, and HOWLS surround her.

REPORTER
Reporting live from the Upper Level lobby, where moonlight has begun pouring in. Werewolves have --

A brown blur knocks her off camera. SQUOOSH! A gush of blood fills the air. A GURGLED SCREAM.

INT. OLD GLORY - CONGRESS CHAMBER

WINDOWLESS. Big enough for fifty people, but only four endure the CACOPHANY OF CHAOS from the ship's bowels.

Scientific Advisor SATYA (30, lab coat, bona fide cynic) and

Captain THORIN (23, crisp uniform, mindless) face a podium.

SATYA
When we returned to orbit two weeks ago, the data immediately indicated that Earth remained uninhabitable. WHY ARE WE STILL HERE?

VP MOYER (75, mush crammed into a suit) stands at the podium with PRESIDENT KAISER (108, loose suit on a skeletal body).

SHRIEKS, CRIES, and SHREDDING METAL reverberate from outside the large reinforced door.

SATYA (CONT'D)
Attacks happen daily by simply orbiting with the moon! There's no logical reason to be here still!

VP MOYER
Are we sure it's werewolves?

On the eve of the #ScreenwritingChallenge prompts dropping, for #FirstPageFriday HERE’s my short How’ll We Survive, which originated as my 1st round entry in last year’s competition. I pulled the Political Satire genre and ended up with a political satire sci-fi horror comedy 😂. #NYCMSWC

It captures the hashtags #NYCMSWC & #ScreenwritingChallenge so we can keep up and connect with each other! #ScriptSky
