This is an illustration of the concept of the circular economy, displaying alternatives to throwing your devices. There is an arrow separated into 6 polluting steps of the lifecycle of a product: energy and material input, production, distribution, use, disposal, and waste/emission leakage. Instead of disposing, you can have a longer use, intensifying use, or opt for dematerialisation. If you still don't want to keep your device, you can allow it to be reused by the community, send it back to a "production phase" where it can be remanufactured and refurbished instead of building new machines, or recycle it so that this material can be utilised again as an input for further production.
I read APC's Circular Tech Guide, and I think we should adopt this mindset of devices as a common resource rather than property. Let's allow our gadgets to have a 2nd+ lifecycle by reselling, donating, repairing, refurbishing, or recycling! Fight for traceability and reparability #EarthDay #OCCP2025
