Disappointing result from GMP Traffic on this submission to #OpSnap. No further action. 1/3

He's clearly a fan of third party video reporting though #OpSnap

📑🚓 New papers out today show what West Midlands Police and the PCC are doing on road safety. Key tidbits: resourcing is up, #OpSnap performance is shaky, neighbourhood policing teams not doing enough on parking or enforcing road offences locally.

Certainly won’t lead to modal shift if there’s a car parked in it. Reported for obstruction? #OpSnap

2 0 1 0

I keep wondering if I should submit video of me passing any vehicles parked blocking the whole footway to the #opsnap portals as obstruction.
I suspect the outcome would be nfa sadly.

The lack of consistency is really poor, and an initiative that started so well is being wasted (and in the process discriminating against less confident and vulnerable road users).

That the demand is ever-increasing should mean more resource, not failure #OpSnap

Under-fire police force missed 14-day window to take action in two-thirds of reports by cyclists, data reveals Concerning West Midlands Police data suggests hundreds of reports are being missed each month, but force insists it is "working hard to reduce backlog" and is "prioritising more serious offences"

This is really, really poor. For #OpSnap to be viable it needs adequate resource, and it could be self funding through fines. @adamtranter.bsky.social

It is unclear but it's clear (as we know) that it's a huge problem.
Dodgy plates are currently £100 fine and no points.
If the penalties were tougher and the process simplified so that a photo of a car could be submitted to an #opsnap portal then that could make a big difference.

Very poor response from @LancashirePolice on a dangerous close pass by a truck driver. They claim they "do not consider that the evidential threshold for a prosecution for an offence under S3RTA has been reached in this case". #OpSnap

#OpSnap for obstruction.

The zig-zags make it one for #OpSnap, and reporting to the taxi licensing people, if you’re feeling vindictive?

2 0 3 0

Also interesting that @manccop.bsky.social hope to take over policing GM's public transport network.

If GMP gets to keep nearly 20% of fines raised, why doesn't there seem to be more resource for #OpSnap? Is an opportunity being missed here?

Off the bike for a few weeks so driving more than I would normally be, still no shortage of bad drivers out there to report to #OpSnap

Derbyshire #OpSnap think this driving is acceptable and only worthy of a Warning letter. No idea what a driver has to do to receive points/fine/education course 🤷 2cm from cyclist causing wobble and driving the off the road.

The January reports from West Midlands Police #OpSnap are out. I made 13 reports: 11 led to a FPN (9 for stopping on zigzags, 2 driving without reasonable consideration), one warning letter (DWRC) and one report with no further action (zigzags, but no reg). www.westmidlands.police.uk/police-force...

West Midlands Police have acted on my #OpSnap reports of vehicles left in a similar position. Video needs to ideally show, how views between pedestrians and traffic in the carriageway are affected. YMMV with other forces.

Guidance advising not to share footage of traffic offences reported to the police

Guidance advising not to share footage of traffic offences reported to the police

Not *my* advice, just reporting what's said at webinars etc. As explained on #OpSnap @wmpolice.bsky.social www.westmidlands.police.uk/police-force... if it *is* a potential offence, social media posts makes it harder to convict, so CPS drop it.
So it's a choice:
* Show pic/video
* 3rd party report

That second car is causing an obstruction, which is a police matter. #OpSnap?

I'd have thought there was a NIP for them if you get it on camera? #OpSnap

Ooh my Dad got a NIP for passing a cyclist too close. Gonna pop round his and see what the other side of #OpSnap looks like (I’ve only ever submitted to it). No sympathy for him btw, I must have mentioned the 1.5m to him a hundred times and warned that a good proportion of us have cameras! #Cycling

My 2024 submissions to #GMPolice #OpSnap. The results are in. Figures look better than last year's, though there were a lot of decisions not fed back in 2023.

Such a scum bag how dare someone spend a little of the spare time helping to make the roads safer using #opsnap

I have an #OpSnap browser tab permanent open on my laptop. I report every driver that endangers me, without mercy. I used to average 7 drivers reported/day, but since I started cycling in just after 5am, that's dropped hugely.
Still, #DontFuckWithCyclists. It will cost you!
