Saddened at the passing of Bob Carnesi, captain of the late Krewe of Caesar. For 40 years, Caesar rolled on the first Saturday of the parading season, and was the only krewe to have officially licensed Disney characters in their parade. He will be remembered as an icon of #OurCarnivalHeritage
Lydia Thompson introduced "If Ever I Cease to Love" to Mardi Gras & earned #legendary status.

Full color A-I generated image of a doubloon-style circular image celebrating 50 years of the golden age of disco in twenty-twenty-seven. The image depicts the Krewe of King Arthur's character disco dancing with his Guinevere. King Arthur on the left is wearing his crown atop his long blonde 1970s hair. He wears a wide collared button down shirt, open to the 3rd button to reveal a thick gold necklace. He is wearing an orange sharkskin suit, jacket open to reveal a thick gold belt and buckle atop his flared trousers. Guinevere, wearing a gold tiara on her long curly blonde head, with a medieval-style pink gown with a plunging V-neck and long shimmering skirt trimmed in gold brocade. Behind them are various silhouettes of disco dancers beneath a large mirrorball reflecting rainbow shafts all around. In gold period lettering at the top, it reads "Fifty years, Golden Age of Disco."
The Krewe of King Arthur announces their theme for #carnival2027!

Image of two float riders during the Gretna Italian-Irish Parade. They are in the back of the float; a young bearded man with curly brown hair wearing an oversized stetson-type hat, banded vertically with the colors green, red, and white. He is wearing a white T-shirt, and smiling widely at his fellow rider, a young woman with brown hair braided into ponytails behind her head. She is smiling, her tongue out of her mouth and touching her top lip. She is also wearing a white t-shirt, and around her neck a set of oversized green anodized beads. Her right hand is held aloft, holding two balls, one yellow and one red, with her index finger up in the air. Her left arm is outstretched, with half a dozen strands of Carnival beads over her elbow, and another half a dozen beads in her left hand, along with a can of alcoholic seltzer and what appears to be another yellow ball gripped alongside the can. Behind them are dozens of strands of beads hanging from the hooks along the back wall, as well as several small plush toys in the cubbys above. The float is predominantly lime green, with brightly colored trees, branches, and birds painted on the facade.
Of all the photos I took yesterday, this one is my favorite. The happiness on the young man's face, the attitude of the girl with the armful of beads and a High Noon clutched against yet another throw--wonderful!
Even though it's not a Carnival parade, these are the faces of #OurCarnivalHeritage!
This is exceptional work! How I wish I had been fortunate to have seen this on the streets during Mardi Gras!

From 1894 to 1999, patients suffering from Hansen's Disease (leprosy) were incarcerated for life at the U.S. Public Health hospital in Carville, LA. In 1932, they began celebrating Mardi Gras in celebrations that rivaled any in New Orleans.

Image of a male hand, holding a limited edition bronze coin and a orange card. The card reads, "First official Mardi Gras Bourbon Street Bronze Commemorative Coin. Numbered Limited Edition of 2,500. The card is signed by Mayor Dutch Morial. The bronze coin depicts a Carnival reveler, leaning against one of the iconic street lamps in the French Quarter, holding up a bottle in cheer. At the top of the coin in cursive lettering is the phrase "Birthplace of Jazz," and at the bottom in large stylized lettering is the phrase "Mardi Gras '79." To the right of the street lamp, it reads "Bourbon Street."
In 1979, New Orleans issued a special bronze commemorative coin, limited to 2,500 pressings! While the coins themselves can still be found on various sites, the complete set with the original card, seen here, are quite rare! Notice the card is signed by then-Mayor Dutch Morial!
