Hornfels, who has had no sleep, tiredly picks up the radio microphone and asks "Chert? Status report?" Second panel: Chert is on the Ember twin, digging out their half-buried ship in a losing battle against the rising sands. They shout "I'M TIRED OF THIS GRAMPMA!!" I forgot to post this one here, whoops!
Slate: "Well that's TOO DAMN BAD! You keep diggin!"
How I imagine the first couple of Chert's missions on the twins went, before they learned to park the ship higher up.

The hatchling holds out their hands to recieve a piece of paper. They say "sweet." Panel 2: a closeup of the writing on the paper. It's the loss meme. Panel 3 and 4: hatchling doesnt react to this because presumably Hearthians dont have a loss meme. They read the paper and say "thanks" with a smile. Panel 5: they happily leave the museum, waving goodbye to Hornfels, saying "okay byeeeeeee!" Unaware that the statue has detected them. .....this was all way too much work for a loss meme, but it had to be done. Hearthians use simple lines and dashes for their writing and so...
I'm at a loss for words...

Hornfels turns to look as they hear it hit their windowsill Panel three: Hornfels opens the note and it says "Call me? 🥺" in Esker's handwriting. Panel four: Hornfels's reaction to the note. They miss their friend too. Panel five: Hornfels is happily reclined in a chair by their comm station. They radio Esker saying "Y'ello! What's the dirt?" Esker replies over the radio "omg hi! SO! You'll never guess who I saw kiss-" implying that its the start of a long story
Sometimes the dirt is too good to wait for your weekly gossip sesh. (And not just because you were feeling lonely that day nope)
