A Great Gray Owl sit on a spindly twig in front of an ore dock at the edge of Lake Superior, with a light structure at the end of a breakwall in the distance. The owl is large and bulky, in contrast to the tiny twigs of the bush it's sitting on. It's looking back at the viewer its face tiny in the middle of a large head, with a circular face. White crescents border its eyes on the inside, along the beak, and a white bow tie marking sits under its chin. Half a dozen birdwatchers in a variety of warm weather gear point long camera lenses to the left, at an owl that is out of site. They're among short pine tree plantings, behind a fence along a grassy area, with a tall ore dock and hill behind.

Literally ONE DAY after we stopped at the Two Harbors waterfront on our way north, a Great Gray Owl decides to hang out there and entertain the birders who've flocked to northern Minnesota this winter. 😭

We'll keep looking and hoping while we're out […]

Owl Irruption Lots of people are here to enjoy them. Here's hoping they don't add to the poor birds' stress.

1) Respected biologist and authority on birds Laura Erickson's observations on an irruption of owls in Northern Minnesota, and why we need to give these magnificent birds their space. lauraerickson.substack.com/p/owl-irrupt... #owls #OwlIrruption
