It was good to hear from the Minister Sir Chris Bryant about the next steps for AI and Copyright at our parliamentary drop in. CRA Board @ISM @assocphoto.bsky.social @societyofauthors.bsky.social all making the case for protecting creators' incomes #paythecreator #copyrightmatters
I've just signed this petition protesting Meta's theft of Irish writing, which they've used to build their AI tool. Will you sign too? my.uplift.ie/petitions/pr...

It’s up to us all to continue to share #MakeItFair & #PayTheCreator for a sustainable creative future:
There’s much to love about AI.
But it’s not fair that writers don’t get paid for our work being used to train it. Esp as most writers like me have day jobs to subsidise working as an author. Off to the gym to earn my pennies.

Going in the right direction but sounds a bit vague and unconvincing. Also, Guardian, this campaign isn't about a few famous people, it's about thousands of us. #PayTheCreator
Generative AI is an abomination. Heavily, heavily regulate it (and consider the environmental impacts) and stop it stealing from creators.
This is regarding UK law consultations, for those interested.

Please focus on preserving rather than removing workers' rights - those of creatives, skilled workers and artists, designers and editors - the ones who have a body of knowledge and who are human beings rather than a computer-generated 'solution' that will only line the pockets of rich technocrats and oligarchs. The road towards allowing AI unfettered access to our hard work is the blueprint for removing our jobs, our livelihoods and our contributions to the art and culture we hold dear in a civilised society. And once that's gone, then what would you propose we do? There won't be much we can do. We will have a flooded market of sub-par art, music, film and literature - and by sub-par, I mean it will reflect whatever the operators of said tech decide it will, whether it's that Ukraine is an aggressor, or maybe that women shouldn't work, or speak out loud in town halls, or that only white men should have 'good' jobs; maybe that immigrants are scum. Whatever they want (don't worry, they'll fact-check all this). Besides, we'll all be too busy working our non-union jobs at Amazon to have the energy to speak up about this, or to care what kind of crap is being peddled as art. We won't have time to care.
My work would die - I write, edit and fact-check for a living. If AI takes on these services, much cheaper than I create and/or do them – and it would be at a lower skill level – how is this quantifiable to you? That the writing doesn't make you weep? That the ending wasn't quite right? Do you want to live in a world where good literature isn't possible? It's already become the preserve of the middle to upper class as no one can afford to write. Just take a look at AI art to get a sense of what your children will be ingesting as 'art' and culture. And then what would all these creative workers like myself do for a living? Are we worthless? Non-quantifiable? Work at an Amazon warehouse? If AI does at all, to a 'workable' level, where is anything good? Gone. Fact-checking robots, ok. We can already see where that goes. Ask DeepSearch about Tiananmen Square and see where you get on 'facts'.
Last chance to have your say on AI stealing writers' work in the UK... see the ALCS website - www.alcs.co.uk/news/your-ri... - for how to fill in the survey. Here's my thoughts, for what it's worth. #MakeItFair #PayTheCreator
This is probably a stable door/ horse bolted scenario but please, dear AI overloads, give us some pennies for scalping us. #AI #paythecreator #madebyhumans #fair #tuesdaymotivation #optin #authorlife #writingcommunity
As you may have gathered from the number of reposts I've made this morning, today is the UK deadline for responding to government consultation about AI to ensure that creators are fairly rewarded when their work is used to train AI. #makeitfair #PaytheCreator.
I've already responded to the government consultation on AI and copyright. Several of my responses were the same: “You don’t 'encourage' people to comply with the law. You penalise them if they break the law.” #PayTheCreator
The Government is siding with big tech over British creativity.
Today is the FINAL chance to respond to their consultation on AI and copyright.
Let's make sure creators' voices are heard. Guidance below 👇 #MakeItFair #PayTheCreator

See this @dcmsgovuk.bsky.social ? It means people aren’t supposed to steal my work for free
#MadebyHumans #PaytheCreator
AI is profiting from human creativity – isn’t it time creators got their fair share?
A fair deal for creators isn’t just about making things right, it is essential for the future of creativity and AI.

I coordinated a letter from @societyofauthors.bsky.social members in Cambridge to our local MP asking him to respect British copyright laws and not vote to hand over the work of creatives to tech giants. #paythecreator #madebyhumans

The CRA are standing with all creators and performers, sending a clear message to UK Government; Make it Fair - stop siding with big tech and ensure that creators are fairly rewarded when their work is used to train AI. #makeitfair #PaytheCreator. Read more: www.creatorsrightsalliance.org
Please, fill in the #AI consultation TODAY to stop the government gutting copyright. ALCS has a guide to the key questions, you don't need to do all of it.
I was impressed by my MP's opposition to the plans. Write to yours. Meet them

A bookplate that shows a ramshackle techbot stealing stories from books to mash them up and churn out uniform AI story cubes. Text says 'This book belongs to'. Handmade by Claire Dean.
Grateful to my union @societyofauthors.bsky.social for fighting the UK government's plans to gift the work of writers, artists, musicians, filmmakers and more to AI companies (on top of the work they've already stolen) #MadeByHumans #PayTheCreator #BookplatesAgainstAI
The Creators’ Rights Alliance is extremely pleased to announce that the @theavauk has joined the CRA as a full member. Founded in 2023 the AVA represents over 5000 voice over artists across the UK & Eire. Welcome!

I responded to this today. I’ve spent 5 years on a research-intensive biography drawing on never-published archive material. If AI giants can steal my work, internet users will be able to learn about the remarkable Duchess of Atholl without me seeing a penny. #paythecreator #madebyhumans
Please share! A wee reminder to protect copyright so arts & culture sectors are not devastated by AI thieving our work! Emailing your MP & signing the statement just takes 2 minutes. Completing the survey takes longer but templates & help on the links below...

We must not allow the UK Government to relax copyright restrictions for AI developers. It amounts to stealing!
Please: email your MP before the Gov consultation closes on 25 February. Thank you. 👇

Society of Authors call to “make some noise on AI and copyright”
Finally got round to the govt’s appalling AI consultation. It’s tiresome, but I kept going by giving myself a few treat analogies along the way.
Whether you love Tescos or loathe them, at least they don’t come round your house, steal your food and try to sell it back to you
#PaytheCreator
Creativity does not come from a machine, it comes from human interaction, human understanding and concerns. It is the power of many to change one idea. The power of one person to spread an idea. It is not the thieving and desecration of writers with words #PayTheCreator #MadeByHumans
Make some noise: Help spread the word on AI and copyright. The UK govt’s consultation on AI & copyright closes on 25 Feb. Help make some noise about the importance of copyright in underpinning creators’ rights by emailing your MP via creativerightsinai.eaction.org.uk/MP. #PayTheCreator #MadeByHumans
