I took my polymer clay photo, desaturated it completely and then imposed a perfect tiling as well as I could in Inkscape, using partially opaque polygons with natural tones from a photo to color the clay. Since my clay is imperfect, it doesn't quite match. #inkscape #penrosetiles

Printables link for this polymer clay project. You need both a printer and clay to do it. It might work with something cheaper like salt clay. I haven't tried.

Finally, the long awaited printable model. This is one of my most elaborate designs, though it's not as mathematical elegant as some others. I think it would make a nice patio if done with real stone. I may do some multicolor versions.

Penrose cobblestones. There are 9 kinds of pieces, including Penrose kite and dart jigsaw tiles and "cobblestones" that can be snapped on top of each. The other pieces fit snugly in between and the assembly can be turned upside down. I'll post a model soon.

As promised, a printable model of the Penrose kite and dart tiling with a Voronoi diagram surface. I did most of the planning in Inkscape and used Tinkercad to make the bumps on the surface using intersections of flattened spheres.

Another way to decorate Penrose tiles. Starfish and stylized sand dollar (which isn't really symmetric). I am working on filling in a continuous texture.
I used AI art to generate the pictures but it took work to make them symmetric.

Penrose du jour. This time I drew arcs from the edges to the incenters of component triangles. The arcs pass through perpendicularly so the joins are smooth. One interesting thing is it assigns shapes to all the ways of fitting corners.

In my ongoing quest to #3dprint the perfect #penrosetiles These are small (3mm thick and 10mm on a small side), print with 45° degree overhang, snap and hold well, and can be printed upside down.
I have a preference for kite and dart tiles, but maybe I'll go for rhombs next.
