Another weekend, another suncatcher. It's repetitive, but that's the point. This time I cast all the tesserae in one session, placed them all dry in the silicone frame, and poured the least clear resin yet, less than 8ml. No 3D printer, just molds and resin.

And finally the printable, including detailed instructions for making the silicone molds and casting the pieces. This was a journey of several weeks and the most complicated resin project I have ever completed. I hope somebody else out there tries it.

This time, I'll declare victory after the top coat of resin. There's a pit caused by trapped air that I choose to ignore, and I'll keep the 3D printing artifacts instead of coating over.

There are 10 hex pieces around the boundary I plan to put in. There are also 3D print artifacts to coat over on the bottom, and a new mold ready for more pieces.

Penrose to the Horizon
Resin suncatcher. The design is based on the Voronoi diagram of a Penrose tiling. The forms are resin cast in silicone molds from 3D printed masters.
I'm not sure whether to declare it finished or level the top with clear resin. Any thoughts?

Just 5 more pieces to go and then a clear coat.
I realized I am doing it the hard way making the clear base and gluing them in with drops of resin. I could make a silicone mold with dips to hold pieces snugly. And just fill and coat in one step. Next time!

Still coming along. I have 15 more pieces to cast, 5 at a time. The next 5 are curing. After that I need a strategy to immerse in resin but keep the shape if I don't want a coaster. I am out of silicone till I order more. I could 3D print a cuff and coat it in paraffin.
