Siena repair - not pretty, but this is proof-of-principle - I will tidy it up with proper tape.

A dinky wee Psion Siena in all its retrocomputing / permacomputing glory - look at the layout of the number buttons! It's a fantastic little programmable scientific calculator, running EPOC16 - the operating system for the incredible Psion Series 3+ range of handheld computers from the 1990s

A few more Psion Siena repairs - tape for proof of principle - I'll be tidying this up in due course (with bookbinding tape - my fave). I'm starting to like the Siena again - it's limited, but dinky, super portable and crazy retro. #Psion #Retrocomputing #Permacomputing #RightToRepair

EVERYTHING’S GOING TO BE OK Implementing a tiny virtual machine, assembler, and compiler This thesis presents the design and implementation of ok, a stack-based virtual machine intended for educational use that prioritizes ease of implementation and minimal resource usage. The system is formally specified and accompanied by a reference implementation written in C. This thesis also introduces MK2, an assembly-like language targeting this virtual machine, as well as a high-level compiled programming language called nude. Together, these components form a usable programming stack that demonstrates how a beginner-friendly and resource-conscious virtual machine and toolchain can support higher-level software development while remaining accessible for instructional use.

iPhone 5s Gets New Software Update 13 Years After Launch Alongside iOS 26.2.1, Apple today released an updated version of iOS 12 for devices that are still running that operating system update, eight years after the software was first released. iOS 12.5.8 is available for the iPhone 5s and the ‌iPhone‌ 6, meaning Apple is continuing to support these devices for 13 and 12 years after launch, respectively. The ‌iPhone‌ 5s came out in September 2013, while the ‌iPhone‌ 6 launched in September 2014. According to Apple's release notes for the update, iOS 12.5.8 extends the certificate required for features like iMessage, FaceTime, and device activation, so they will continue to work after January 2027. Originally, certificate-limited functions like device activation would have ceased when the certificate expired, but now key features on the two older iPhones will continue to work in the years to come. Prior to now, the ‌iPhone‌ 5s and ‌iPhone‌ 6 last received software updates in January 2023, when Apple released important security fixes.
