Our copy of Culpeper's Herbal contains beautiful coloured illustrations of plants like henbane and hemlock, both of which were used for anaesthetic qualities. Black henbane was known as witch's 'flying ointment'. #witchy #histmed #pharmhist

It's collections day! Today we accessioned this 1808 notes and bill for the care of a patient, Mrs Blackford. In May she received 15 visits and her care included the application of eight leeches at 2 shillings 6 pence each. #histmed #pharmhist
