A superb vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver and golden sheen obsidian stone inlay Mexican modernist geometric Striped design necklace by maestro Felipe Martinez of Taxco. An exceptional and outstanding design that is a showcase for the marriage of stone and silver that is the signature of Piedra Y Plata in Taxco! Martinez studied sculpture in his early days before working with Hubert Harmon in the 1940s, and opened his own workshop Piedra Y Plata (Stone & Silver) in Taxco in the 1950s. The necklace will fit up to a 14" neck, and the links taper in size from 7/8" wide at front to 1/2" wide at back. Weighs a hefty 98 grams total. Tight-fitting V-spring and box closure with an added safety chain that has a spring-ring closure itself for easy on and off. Marked at back as shown, "Piedra Y Plata Sterling Taxco Martinez", design number "160", and Eagle 3. Excellent vintage condition.

A lovely vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver and amethyst Mexican modernist Cattail Flowers design brooch by Felipe Martinez of Taxco. Martinez trained as a sculptor before going to work for Hubert Harmon in the 1940s as his shop foreman, and then opened his own shop in the early 1950s called "Piedra Y Plata" (stone and silver). A beautiful and graceful example of figural modernist jewelry from the mid-century in Mexico! Measures 3.5" tall by 2" widest. Marked at backs as shown, "Piedra Y Plata Martinez Sterling Taxco" with design number 150, and Eagle number 3. From the Eagle mark I am guesstimating that this brooch was made around the mid-1950s. Excellent vintage condition.
