The #AmericanBirthControlLeague, #MargaretSanger's earlier version of #PlannedParenthood, incorporated on #ThisDayInHistory in 1922. Its argument that children should be conceived in love & financial security, and by the conscious desire of women, is controversial only to pricks.

Sanger also saw women’s education on reproduction and the availability of contraception as the only means to avoiding abortions. The procedure was not legal at the time, but Sanger repeatedly saw patients or corpses that bore the evidence of attempts to abort pregnancies. In 1942, some 20 years after its founding, the American Birth Control League became Planned Parenthood.

On this day in 1922, the American Birth Control League was incorporated in New York by nurse and activist Margaret Sanger. She believed women must be able to decide when they have children and that this was necessary for women to achieve equality with men.
