A pacific chorus frog (Pseudacris regilla) perches on the pleasingly dramatic leaf blades of a clump of black mondo grass (Ophiopogon planiscapus nigrescens), a relative of lily of the valley that does really well in Coastal BC. I'm not actually sure if the frog is trying to blend in, or simply stalking the small european grey slugs that infest the mondo grass in all seasons. Probably both🖤🐸🖤Frog slug patrol, at work!

"I'm blending right in! You can't see me!" {angles eye stripe to mimic arc of leaf}

A pacific chorus frog (Pseudacris regilla), in brown coloration but with characteristic black eye stripe and spots, is perched on the metal webbing of a greenhouse bench. A maidenhair fern's frond arches over the frog. If the frog was green it would blend in nicely with the algae beginning to take over the bench's surfaces. Beneath the metal grid, a row of white variegated fittonias are visible on a shelf - also a favorite hiding spot for frogs hanging out in the greenhouse.

I was moving a crop from a bench when this one hopped out of a maidenhair fern's saucer and surprised me. Safely relocated to the Alocasias!

A smol bronze and green frog is held gently in a hand. He looks resigned to his fate. Which was to be moved 50ft.

Is it too early for #frogfriday? Because I’ve had a really looong week and I had to tell this fine gentleman that he was not allowed to loiter near the construction equipment. #pseudacris #herps

A small frog sits on a tiny mound of dirt. The frog has a pale brown backsode, a pale green belly and underside of the jaw, and a darker green-brown streak along the sides of its face, torso, and thighs. Its eyes seem golden.

I was delighted to meet 3 new frog species on my trip to Winnipeg; this little one is the boreal chorus frog (Pseudacris maculata), a relative of the Pacific chorus frog from back home!

Some clear, gelatinous egg masses can be seen attached to underwater vegetation. No embryos are seen, so the tadpoles are already out.

Something different for #FrogFriday. These are the egg sacs of Pseudacris regilla AFTER the embryos have hatched out and become free-swimming tadpoles! I’ll post a compare in the comments. #herps #frogs #pseudacris #fieldbiologist

Just know that somewhere in Cali, roughly 20ft from a super busy highway, you can hear the peepers sing….. #pseudacris #frogfriday #fieldwork

#FrogFriday means you should enjoy this tiny Pseudacris frogsicle that found me sitting in a meadow on a cold evening. #frog #smol #herps #pseudacris #fieldwork #tinywonders

It’s #frogfriday! As usual here in Central California, the chorus frogs are the first to jump straight into the breeding season. Pseudacris tadpoles are very small, and can develop amazingly fast, in some cases 6-8 weeks from egg to froglet! #herps #frogs #pseudacris #fieldwork
