The background of the can is a faint birch bark print. There is a white ribbon wrapping around the logo and the mascot at the bottom in the fashion of the older barq's root beer cans with the illustrated styling. Flavor text on the ribbon reads, from top to bottom: "100% for birb" , "IT GUD!", "BURCH BEER." At the bottom of the can is the mascot, a willow ptarmigan, facing left and looking up, beak open in an excited smile.

#Ptarmigan live in the mountainous areas of the #ScottishHighlands, perfectly adapted to cold winters. Their feathers change from grey and brown in summer to snow-white in #winter. 🏔❄️

Its name comes from the Scottish Gaelic ‘tarmachan’, meaning ‘croaker’, because of the bird’s distinctive call.

#Ptarmigan

A ptarmigan in summer colours - grey with some splashes of white on the underside - in the centre of the image, with a foreground rock partly in shot bottom right. Ptarmigan usually freeze first if they think they are spotted, so you have a good chance for a photo if you see them, but they camouflage among rocks very well. This one is near an edge and the background is a more distant slope of our of focus green and grey.

A #ptarmigan (in summer) in the #Cairngorms for #MountainMonday. Unusually, this is a case where the Gaelic name has been adopted into English, which says a lot about the distribution of this species in the British Isles.
