A Qiviut Crisis at Christmas I have often said that if, heaven forbid, my house is on fire, I won’t reach for my jewelry or family photos; I will reach for my qiviut—the luxurious fiber from the musk ox. Given my profession, this should not come as a surprise. Admittedly, I have only a few items, which makes them that much more precious. They are equal parts pricey and priceless.

Looking down on a multi blue colored rope bowl from above. Inside the bowl is a brownish qiviut roving and 2 high whorl spindles lying on top of the fiber. One is made with a reddish wood and a light wood on the top. The one to the right of that is a light brown spindle made from a wooden toy wheel as the whorl. The reddish spindle has a cone shaped single yarn filling it. The other spindle also has a single of yarn wrapped in a cone shape but it has less yarn on it.
