Town of Dana
The town was disincorporated as part of the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir, but the majority of the land is still above water. Houses were moved or razed, but cellar holes remained.

A big old tree stands on the corner of Dana common. The town was disincorporated in the 1930s to make way for the flooding of the Swift River Valley to create the Quabbin Reservoir.
A old fallen tree sits propped up on one of its branches, on the side of the trail, in a bed of snow.
Quabbin reservoir supplies the drinking water for Boston and its surroundings, over 60 miles to the east. On this day in late February it is completely frozen over, a vast sheet of white that fills the bottom half of the photo. In the center is one of former mountains of the Swift River Valley, it is now an island in a vast artificial lake.

I visited the ghost town of #Dana, #Massachusetts near the #Quabbin reservoir and took some #photos of the #winter scenery. There was #ice everywhere which made the #hike slippery, but beautiful.
