A yellow Sportsmark beehive grit bin stands on the pavement in the foreground, as the old A5 road (which once connected London to Holyhead) winds its way through the hamlet of Queens Head in northwest Shropshire.
In the middleground, just beyond the junction with the modern day bypass, is the Queens Head pub. A 19th Century Inn that once served the local canal wharf. Just behind the grit bin, a metal crash barrier denotes the location of an overbridge where that waterway passes under the road.
The Montgomery Canal, which once connected this part of the county to Newtown, in mid-Wales, closed in the 1940s but has been under restoration since 1969. Boats have been in regular use here again since the 1990s.
🎶 The Queen Bee, baby!
Pray that you may be left on your own, uh-huh.
Grit she'll give you,
Gonna outlive you,
But the Queen Bee's never gonna be alone, uh-huh! 🎶
