And the situations they do it in are largely ones where they're manipulating someone or trying to use someone for their gain. Both hands on the shoulders, standing behind someone is a common manipulator move- physical touch makes people trust you more, but it's also ever so slightly demeaning. The kind of way you hold someone you want to lead into whatever bullshit manipulative plan you have. What if Alastor saw Vox do that to people he was lying to/manipulating on the regular, and the flashback was the first time he was doing it to Alastor? Hear me out: Alastor looks comfortable and happy in the flashback. Vox touches one of his shoulders with one hand, and Al doesn't react- he even giggles at Vox's joke after. Vox also (possibly? He did not make that sound at the other times he was touched, just the shoulder touch. What if the whole "FRIENDS? There are no friends in hell Vincent!" Was Alastor insanely pissed about how he thought him and Vox were friends, but the shoulder touch while Vox was giving his pitch made it clear to Alastor that Vox was lying to him and didn't want to be equals. So he's angry that Vox even dares to suggest they're friends after such blatant manipulation with no doubt the goal of using Alastor for his power. They put so much emphasis on that specific type of shoulder touch- and maybe that IS the reason for their falling out. Vox showing Alastor they're not friends."
