Over the last 30 years or so, I was lucky enough to be able to 'rescue' fabric samples which would otherwise have been thrown away. Consequently, I still have some boxes full of fabrics, and it's always a pleasure deciding on a colour and choosing the relevant fabrics. Each piece is cut and knotted on by hand, so it takes me around 3 months to make a rug. This one has vertical stripes in shades of brown, beige, white and orange

When making a rag rug, I usually do a random design so cut up all 4,500 pieces before I start. This one was easier, as I could cut one line at a time. Made from a variety of coloured fabric which was destined for the tip. The central panel is a combination of all the fabrics used in squares at two corners. White was used to separate the central panel from the squares. All 4,500 pieces were hand-cut and individually knotted on to rug canvas.
Made from various purple patterned Laura Ashley fabric offcuts, and edged with purple bias binding. The pattern has seven panels radiating from a central semi-circle, with a strip of contrasting fabric at the bottom. It was quite tricky to sew and it was a while before I tried this pattern again!
For today's #MakersmARTch theme of #pattern, I couldn't decide between two things, so doing both 😁 Firstly, a rag rug using fabric samples saved from being thrown away, in a pattern I hadn't tried before.
