is anyone at #critcat #critlib #critarch considering @RBMS and have experience with #cataloging pornographic, erotic, or obscene material? #histsex #RBMS20 #RBMS2020
Leadership can be found at all levels of staffing and from all corners of the field (libraries, archives, museums, bookselling, conservation, bookmaking, collecting). I hope when we’re reviewing proposals for #rbms20 we don’t discount names that aren’t familiar.
Power, Resistance, Leadership. These are not just abstractions. They live in our collections & in us. Sessions about how we do our daily work & how we can affect change in concrete, pragmatic, sustainable ways that could be implemented now. #rbms20
I’ve seen a lot of tweets this year that seem to devalue the materials in our care, and it makes me… upset. Also, more participatory sessions overall. More voices. More chances for new ideas. #rbms20
Ditto resistance. I want sessions on how books and manuscripts can be used to resist oppression, fight racism, create communities of belonging. Let’s talk about how we can use these objects in our care to inspire resistance in our students, communities, and users. #rbms20
Next: the STUFF! Where is the RB & M in RBMS? Books have power—for good and ill. Power—with all the danger and promise that implies—inheres in the objects we care for. Let’s talk about them! #rbms20
Some of my own thoughts for #rbms20! I want leaders from our field as plenaries—not academics. Are we so unsure of our own voices that we have to have others speak at us? Also, let’s hear some different voices: booksellers, conservators, folks at all levels of staffing.
