Oksi by Mari Ahokoivu. A beautifully dark graphic novel based on Finnish folklore. A complicated mother-daughter relationship, curiosity and its consequences, an elaborate plan of primordial deities. Gorgeous and eerie art.

The Alchemy of Flowers by Laura Resau
The Alchemy of Flowers by Laura Resau. A beautifully written magical realism tale of loss, healing, and a found family. A mystery worked into the narrative. It was a page turner and I really enjoyed it. Colorado author. TW: infertility and loss.

Obsessed
Books I'm currently reading. But some of them have holds so rushing through them.

Uncharmed by Lucy Jane Wood
Uncharmed by Lucy Jane Wood. 🎧A neurotic witch with a heart of gold, a stray teenage witch, and a rustic warlock come together in a tale of a found family and finding one’s true self. Overall enjoyable, but a bit too long and too sweet for me.

The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir by Jennifer Ryan
The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir by Jennifer Ryan 🎧
An epistolary novel.
A story of a village in Kent in 1940, and its mostly female inhabitants finding strength in music and each other in the face of war. Enjoyed it overall, though sometimes if felt over the top.

Cover for The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig
The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gilling 🎧Fun premise, interesting magic system, good pace, a pretty sweet romance. I expected a more complex plot, but it worked. The gargoyle is my favorite. Curious how the second book will work out.

Divine Might by Natalie Haynes 🎧 read by the author.
Enjoyed this book tremendously. It’s a deep look into Greek goddesses and their in myth, literature, pop culture, and life. I wish my audio book projected pictures of all the artwork. 😅

Ginkgo Season by Naomi Xu Elegant
Gingko Season by Naomi Xu Elegant . Checked out at random and it turned out to be a lovely read. A slice of life, full of various tidbits, a curious personality of the main character/narrator, a love letter to Philadelphia (I want to visit now)

🎧 Extremely Online by Taylor Lorenz. This book gives a timeline of how social media was changing in the past two decades. Human connection, greed, grift, opportunities, hateful things, doors that open and close, inequality. Heavy focus on the money made from it.

#ReadIn2025 20. The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan. I listened to the audiobook with my spotify hours. Usually I listen slowly. I devoured this in less than a week. I love a dystopia and this was brilliant. Not being a parent I thought it wasn’t for me when it came out. I was wrong.
18. The Cloisters by Katy Hays. This was a bit of a punt for me. I needed a second book for @waterstones.bsky.social offer and it sounded good but not really my thing. I really enjoyed it and it was good! The plot surprised me too which is always good #ReadIn2025
17. Seventh Son by Sebastian Faulks. I love the idea of this book and it really hooked me in to start with. Unfortunately it went down hill and I hated the ending. Do not recommend. #ReadIn2025
Wonderful book. For fans of the movie The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Highly recommend this work of Irish lit.

Cover for Love at First Knight by Megan Clawson
The second romance by Megan Clawson was a bit underwhelming. I didn’t like the main characters at first and it was a bit slow. But then it picked up and there was character growth even if a bit choppy. I enjoyed the second half of the book a bit more. #booksbymybed #readin2025 #booksky #booksof2025
Cover of The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim
Photo of wisteria flowers
Reread,The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim. Always a treat, but especially this year, as I listened to it walking around Italy, even if I didn’t make it to Portofino, and the castle that inspired the book, there was still wisteria and sunshine.

#ReadIn2025 15. James by Percival Everett. April’s book club read. I read this is big gulps. It was good to read something I could get my teeth into.
12. Dark Times for the Clarks Factory Girls by May Ellis. I really love this sort of book for a sunny relaxing day in the garden. There’s something about the social history of the early 1900s that just works for me #ReadIn2025
#ReadIn2025 10. Death in the Arctic by Tom Hindle. Listened to the audiobook. Great setting and a fun mystery but I enjoyed Murder in Lake Garda by the same author more.
I've read 16 books since the beginning of the year. This was my most recent 📚🦋📚 #booksky #readin2025 #litfic #library #supportlibraries
8. A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers. I liked this and it’s a good read but I definitely preferred her other books more. Interested to see what happens in book two. #ReadIn2025
#ReadIn2025 7. Orbital by Samantha Harvey. I read this for book club but it was already on my TBR. Absolutely beautifully written and a clever concept. I can see why it won the Booker. This is a book about character, not plot which generally I like but I’d have liked to have more happen.
Cover for Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Finally got to Strange the Dreamer, and it was an excellent read. Well-developed characters, delightfully constructed romance, vividly imagined world. On to the second book!

5. The Household by Stacey Halls. My first audiobook of the year. I listened to it slowly over about 26 days while reading other stuff. It kept me intrigued throughout, even after it ended. The second book I’ve read by Stacey Halls, won’t be my last #ReadIn2025
