#recentlywatched Snow Blinded. I really enjoyed this one. Guy goes mad in increasingly violent fashion while lost out in the snowy woods w/ his friend. Reminded me of Session 9 in terms of portraying madness/sound design with violence that’s wet and bloody ala the original Hellraiser. Recommended.

#recentlywatched DEMONWARP. First off this 4K from @vinsyn.bsky.social looks incredible. The picture quality is out of hand. The movie which involves Bigfoots, zombies, aliens, killer cultists, etc. is a hoot and a half. Not exactly good but it goes for the gusto.

#recentlywatched BAKTERION. Italian/Spanish horror which imagines: what if a pandemic was one murder-y monster guy? It’s a romp and has one of the most awkward PSA-style endings about how “this is something that could happen.”
#recentlywatched Dark City (4K). Watched the Director’s Cut for the first time. Happy to report that this movie still slaps.
The Sword and the Claw
#recentlywatched The Sword and The Claw. Turkish fantasy adventure that’s a bit of Game of Thrones if it was ridiculously terrible (no comments about the final season out there 😅).
That said, the claws are pretty cool lol.

#recentlywatched 3) The Addiction: more Ferrara. B&W: gorgeous, well shot Acting: esp. Walken in his cameo and Lili Taylor who is beautiful and badass+ weird & wonderful, but the vampirism as drugs metaphor felt wayyyy too heavy-handed, especially w/ the resolution.

#recentlywatched 1) The Resurrected: An enjoyable enough noir-y riff on The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Also Chris Sarandon is an underrated horror villain.
The Train 4K
#recentlywatched THE TRAIN. John Frankenheimer-directed World War 2 film in which Burt Lancaster plays the most not French at all Frenchman of all time. But the standout has to be Paul Scofield as the art-loving, yet heartless Nazi villain. Up there w/ Christoph Waltz’s Landa.
To Live and Die in LA 4K
#recentlywatched TO LIVE & DIE IN L.A. Holy shit. This movie, as the kids say, slaps.
Bastards all the way down in this neo-noir with a young Willem Dafoe as the villain.
This one goes hard in the paint (literally at times) & pulls no punches. Loved it.
Angst 4K
#recentlywatched Angst. Austrian serial killer film that gets compared to Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. This one puts us in the head of a killer which is a pathetic, gross, banally evil place. Frenetic camera work that’s like you’re the devil on the murderer’s shoulder. A rough watch.

#recentlywatched Ghostkeeper. Canadian horror film that’s like what if The Shining was lo-fi & ambient. Genuinely weird & somewhat unsettling. Makes some interesting choices.
Baby Blood Blu-ray case
#recentlywatched Baby Blood. French horror (with strong black comedy aspects) about young woman “impregnated” by a worm-like ancient creature who speaks to her and compels her to kill/drink blood so it can finally be “born.” A fucking wild ride of a movie. Fucked up, funny, disturbing.
Quatermass and the Pit blu-ray
#recentlywatched Quatermass & the Pit. What fun! Part of one of my favorite sub-sub-genres: old guy figures it out and has helpers. (See also Doctor Who.)
#recentlywatched El Castillo de la Pureza (The Castle of Purity). Not a horror movie but certainly horrific. Man keeps his wife & kids shut off from the real world. Slowly has his control eroded along with his sanity.
Darkman 4K
#recentlywatched Darkman. In 4K. Liam Neeson & Frances McDormand in this cheesy, over-the-top 90s superhero spectacle. Gotta love it. I have a slight dream of writing a JLA-style comic of Raimi/Raimi-adjacent characters incl Darkman, Ash, Xena, & MANTIS. Putting that out into the universe.
The Burning 4K
#recentlywatched (recently is doing a heavy lift here but bear w/ me it’s been quite a month) The Burning (in 4K). Come see Jason Alexander as the most 30-something teenager. The raft scene remains an all-timer though.

And give Jacob Elordi an Oscar nod while you’re at it. His performance as the Creature is absolutely incredible.

#recentlywatched Sleepless. Argento Giallo from 2001. Guessed the killer fairly early on. So the reveal didn’t land at the end.

Evil Dead 4K
#recentlywatched Evil Dead 4K. I like this one and it has some absolutely brutal moments. I do wish we got more of the mountainfolk who knew how to stop the Deadites from the beginning of the film.
