I was in #ProspectPark Saturday, and I caught my pal Lincoln taking a break to eat lunch. Lincoln is a #RedTailedHawk, and his lunch used to be a turtle. He didn't offer any. I was good with that.

Meadow illustration completed in watercolour featuring poppies palaver rhoes (scarlet with black centres), cornflowers Centuara cyanus (a pale bright blue with trumpt like florets), corn marigolds Glebionis segetum (yellow daisy like flowers with slightly oranger centres), mayweed or chamomile Anthemis arvensis (white petals and yellow centres), and corncockle Agrostemma githago (bright pink). There is one lage red-tailed bumblebee Bombus lapidarious flying over a corn cockle flower on the left, and lots of bees Apis mellifera breaking up the horizon line. Very small, there's also a Common blue butterfly Polyommatus icarus. The grass fades out into the hazy blue sky.

The 3rd photo in the progression of the meadow illustration. The poppies are now completes too, leaving only the blue cornflowers as white spaces on the page. My hand is on the bottom right of the photo holding a brush.
This is the last of the progression shots. Again, you can see my habd holding my paintbrush and the brown taoed down edges of the illustration (stretching watercolour paper stops it from buckling). Because there's going to be text overlaid on the bottom of the image, the green leaves abd grasses have little contrast do text can stand out clearly. The finished blue cornflowers help balance the colour a bit. The first image in this series of 4 is the final illustration scanned in, not a photo of the work.
