Great to see that @courtneyherms.bsky.social is back in action at a microbiome conference here in Málaga for the #PMS2025, do follow her for the best and most interesting & fun live posting at a conference! She did such an amazing job at the #Rhizosphere6 conference in Edinburgh! 😉 🦠🌱🔬
Following on from the #Rhizosphere6 conference in Edinburgh the other week there are opportunities to publish your research in special issues in Frontiers in Soil Science, Plant and Soil and European Journal of Soil Science

...and also great to attend the #Rhizosphere6 conference in Edinburgh the week before, together with @jpausch.bsky.social, @khatababdalla.bsky.social, @vkurbel.bsky.social & more from the #agroecology group of @unibayreuth.bsky.social / #BayCEER.

Very engaging presentation by Mohsen Mohammadi at #rhizosphere6 on their work in #root enhancement in wheat - lots of overlaps with work done in my lab before I joined, which used RILs between extreme rooting lettuce varieties to identify QTL regions of interest

We had a great week last week at #Rhizosphere6 meeting up with old friends and making new ones. Looking forward to more fruitful interactions with this community in the future and when we go to Rhizosphere 7 in Vienna in 2029
Lawrie, Molly, Kirsty, James & Cristina showcased their research at #Rhizosphere6 in Edinburgh last week! Great to see the work of the group on display and connecting with the l rhizosphere community.

It was an incredible opportunity to present my work at #rhizosphere6 !
"Modeling water uptake : influence of secondary growth, hydrophobic barriers and developmental anatomy on root hydraulic properties"
We couple functional models with experiments to better understand plant water uptake 🪴
I had an absolute blast at the #rhizosphere6 conference in Edinburgh! It was so lovely catching up with some many existing and new colleagues! Very first conference with my lab! @sotonbiosciences.bsky.social @unisouthampton.bsky.social
From #Rhizosphere6 conference in Edinburgh to @newphyt.bsky.social workshop in Berlin on root exudates (of course by train). Looking very much forward to join the workshop organized by @frantecol.bsky.social, @richphillipslab.bsky.social, Maire Holz, Eva Oburger, Johanna Pausch, and Ina Meier.
I was pleased to have the opportunity to present my work in the rhizosphere 6 conference held at Edinburgh recently. I am thankful to the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Limerick & Root-Benefit COST Action for providing travel awards to attend this conference.

Does a plane 1/3 of rhizosphere scientists constitute a rhizoplane? So long Edinburgh - thanks for a great week!! #Rhizosphere6
St Anthony's Chapel Ruins, Edinburgh, at sunset. A leftover chapel wall is visible in front of the setting sun. The sky is overcast with grey clouds, but the sunset is below them on the horizon.
A panoramic image of Edinburgh at sunset, taken from St Anthony's Chapel Ruins.
The Royal Scottish Academy building (I think) at dusk. The building is lit but warm yellow lights, light trails from vehicles are visible on the street in front of it.
Now that #Rhizosphere6 is over, I've had some time to go through my 📸.
#Edinburgh is fun to photograph. The late 🌇 helped.

Back in Copenhagen after a fruitful and exciting #rhizosphere6! It was great to meet so many new people and listen to groundbreaking research happening in the soil. I'm always impressed by the people who chose the hardest medium to study (soil) and still excel in it!
#Vienna 🇦🇹 is the new host of #Rhizosphere7.
See you there in 2029.

Great final talk of the #rhizosphere6 conference. It was very rewarding to participste and hope to make it to Vienna in 4 years.
Inspirational and very motivating talk by @jeffinerca.bsky.social at the closing remarks of #Rhizosphere6 emphasising the many research communities that fit in this meeting and "all the good that carbon does when it's in the soil"! Superb last talk! More people & friends in Vienna 2029!!
Amazing last day at #rhizosphere6! Some wonderful talks, and I loved this quote from Jennifer Pett-Ridge @jeffinerca.bsky.social: “Whatever discipline you come from, whichever goddess you relate to, be it physics, biology, poetry… you can be a rhizosphere researcher”.
Hearing a lot about #intercropping - and its benefits - in this session at #rhizosphere6! Does anyone have some numbers on how widespread intercropping is in intensive agriculture? Or why it might not be utilized so much in practice?
Instead of over-applying fertilizers all over the place, Lingyun Cheng suggests applying small patches into the soil to improve nutrition and root growth. Sticking a microbe in there helps offset the resulting over-accumulation of ethylene #rhizosphere6:

Craig presenting to #rhizosphere6 some of the fantastic research and facilities here at @uniofnottingham.bsky.social this morning!

Time flies when you are having fun! Last day at #rhizosphere6 starts with Craig Sturrock who has developed amazing methods to assess the rhizosphere using 3D xray imaging
Sincere gratitude from #BarleyMicroBreed to #Rhizosphere6 for an inspiring conference👏. We received fantastic and truly inspiring feedback on our presentations - keynote by Mette Vestergård, talk by Menghui Dong and posters by Karl Körber and Andrea Visioni🙏🌾🌞.
Excited to share our work at #Rhizosphere6 on how bio-based fertilizers influence soil nutrient stoichiometry through changes in the soil microbiome—part of the #NutriSTROM project @schmalen.bsky.social
It’s been a fantastic experience learning from so many inspiring talks and discussions.
First ever conference for my PhD student, Sarah Connery! Representing @unisouthampton.bsky.social @sotonbiosciences.bsky.social at #rhizosphere6 - playing around with synthetic communities
It was so exciting to speak in such a beautiful hall, and did the opportunity to talk about traits of tropical roots, and the @tropiroot.bsky.social initiative at the #rhizosphere6 in Edinburgh this week!
Introducing mycorrhizae into non-mycorrhizal plants: wouldn’t that be neat?? #rhizosphere6
Really cool results to determine the mechanism of drought tolerance granted by Bacillus - preventing evaporation on the root! #rhizosphere6
I really enjoy how multidisciplinary approaches are bringing us closer to mechanistic understanding of plant growth promotion traits.
Just heard a talk by prof. Yan Jin on the physics of how Bacillus subtilis changes salt evaporation and precipitation at #rhizosphere6.
Day 2 highlights were the session I chaired in the morning (especially talk by F. Van der Bom on root traits), climbing to a mountain with some grassland scientists, poster presented by PhD candidate S. Planchenault and the party held at the Scottish museum (with loads of dancing). #rhizosphere6
