#RIPGarth ... I was a big fan of The Band, so it was a joy to meet Garth Hudson when he sat in at a Jo-El Sonnier performance at L.A.’s Club Lingerie in the late 80's. He was a prince of a guy and a great storyteller. Garth, the last surviving original member of The Band, died today at age 87.

There are plenty of fine Garth Hudson moments in the Band's work and elsewhere, though I think Garth's organ playing on "Whispering Pines" is among the best art by anybody. #RIPGarth
(Yes, Richard and Levon's vocals on that are stellar. But listen to the organ line!)
