I recently watched an extended cut of this movie, which you can tell because those scenes do not match the quality to the rest of the movie. It's mostly scenes with the corrupt mayor & his assitant, but it includes a much better ending than the original. I would say go for that version, but it still doesn't make sense for the rest of the story. It got two sequels & I stopped watching the 2nd movie half in because of one bullshit decision!
