The Black Pearl, located in Rodanthe, North Carolina, has become a symbol of strength and perseverance. Built in the 1980's, the beach house was protected by sand dunes. Originally there was plenty of room between it's foundation and the incoming sea. Years of erosion have taken their toll and today the house sits condemned, with waves from the ocean easily flowing underneath. Still, it has withstood numerous storms while many other houses have washed away.
