#Churchill curious #RollOfHonour why were 2 names crossed out? Were they missing assumed dead then found?
A Bronze Penny depicting Britannia, the female personification of the United Kingdom, representing British strength and unity; she has a horse on her helmet depicting might on land and is holding a wreath of laurel; around her upper body swim two dolphins symbolising Britain’s sea power; there is a lion at her feet depicting victory, while another lion below is tearing an eagle apart. The deceased soldier is named on the medallion; round the edges "He died for freedom and honour." The name on the Medallion is Robert Blakeley who was a Private in the 2nd/10th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment; he died on 19 February, 1918. Over 1.3 million medallions were issued, including to Indian next-of-kin. #31DaysOfGraves Day 21 Bronze
St John's Church Graveyard, #Nelson, #Lancashire, Bronze #RollOfHonour for WW1 soldiers commemorated or buried here.
Bronze was common in regiment badges and medals.
and in the British & Commonwealth Next of Kin Memorial Plaque, sent to the families of the fallen.
The names were once carefully painted in gold - and now fifteen young men from a forgotten WW2 memorial are remembered again 🌹

A roll of honour mounted in a frame on a wall. It lists all those who served and those who died during the Second World War that were members of the Arbroath Artisan Golf Club.
My local golf club has a Roll of Honour / Memorial to those who served, as well as those who died, in the second great unpleasantness.
