Wait, those aren’t bluebirds!
While monitoring our bluebird nest boxes today, this pair of sandhills came strolling by with no concern at all about us nearby humans, but we did stand very still out of respect. I hope they choose that wetland for their nest site.

Here’s a couple of photos of the #sandhillcranes
Three tall gray birds are standing on a fairway with trees in the background. The birds have long necks, sturdy and sharp beaks and a red stripe on their heads that extends over their eyes.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Grey, so please enjoy this trio of #SandhillCranes hanging out on a golf course. #birds

Yesterday I hiked 5 miles on the IAT, but no video from that. I didn't get out today, but this afternoon these 2 sandhill cranes came to our front yard. They said they were wondering where I was today. ;-)

Here's a couple of short vids of the pair of #SandhillCranes near/on their nest. The male is taking his turn sitting on the nest and the female has just gotten up from the nest and was wading around the nest (next post). She was not fond of the two Mallards sharing the very small pond.

A beautiful pair of Sandhill Cranes posed together while foraging for food. Their plumage looks marvelous and they are probably close to nesting. One crane (male) is looking to the right of the frame and the other, the female, is looking to the left of the frame in the background.
This shot was of the same pair right before they started calling at the other two cranes. It's not often things line up well. I was grateful to get these shots! These two birds were foraging hard before they nest. Looking under every oak or berry tree for a nut or berry.

A male (foreground) and female (background) are participating in a territorial call as two other Sandhills are flying over above. These two do not have a nest yet and were foraging about their breeding grounds.
The other pair of Sandhill Cranes I spent time with yesterday gave some nice views. Here, they are giving a territorial call as two other Sandhill Cranes are flying over above us.

A pair of Sandhill Cranes is tending to their nest. The image shows the changing of the guard. Both male and female take turns sitting on the nest to keep the eggs warm. Our nights are still below freezing. Here, the females is exiting on the right and the male is about to take his turn on the nest.
A Sandhill Crane male is standing over two pale green eggs with light brown speckles and is about to sit with the eggs to keep them warm. It was a very cold Spring day in Wisconsin.
It was my kind of day yesterday. I got to sit with two different pairs of #SandhillCranes. This pair already has eggs. The nest looks minimal, but for cranes tending a nest, these two birds are exceptional. Here they are with the changing of the guard, then the male is about to take his turn.

A beautiful sunset at Whitewater Draw near Bisbee, AZ, with silhouettes of Sandhill Cranes at a distance in the water and a few coming in fro the sky. The sky has pink and blue tones, with yellow from the just set sun on the horizon.
The Sandhill Cranes seemed to wait after the sun set to comeback to the water while I was at Whitewater Draw. So beautiful! belinda-greb.pixels.com/featured/san... #sandhillcranes #sunsetphotography #duskphotography

The head and upper neck of a sandhill crane fills the frame. One bright red eye with yellow surrounded the black iris can be seen. Its beak is slightly open and you can see its tongue. Behind is blurry green foliage.
