A beam of light shining from the forest canopy highlights this parasitic fungus that sprouted from the nutrient dense carpet of boss blanketing the forest floor.

Phaeolus Schweinitzii is a fungal pathogen that causes butt rot on conifers such as Douglas-fir, Spruce, Fir, Hemlock ,Pine and Larch.
