Sculptural coil basketry experiments continue! I was going for a wavy/Great Lakes color and shape here, but that didn’t lend itself to a very sturdy structure. However, putting one of my many lake rocks into it shows off its stretchy waves! 🎨 #coilbasketry #sculpturalbasketry #greatlakes

Start of initial attempt at sculptural weaving a guineafowl head. I think it is heading for scrap-and-start over, but the process is kind of addictive (and mind-bending, thinking about shape in a completely new way, and hard on the hands)

I made a coiled piece inspired by the radiated tortoise in 2020, during the Covide-19 lockdown. Everyone was withdrawing into their homes, so it seemed appropriate.

Concave coiled discs of lime-green raffia, stitched with purple variegated cotton thread spiralling out and branching from the centre, ending with a final round of solid purple. The discs vary in size and are joined together to form an undulating mat.

Five concentric spheres woven from paper yarn, each with holes in so that you can see the spheres inside. The smallest sphere in the centre is white, while all the other spheres are blue, the inner ones starting very pale blue while the outer ones are darker blue, so there is a colour gradient from inside to out. The whole piece is supported on a ring of chicken wire against a pale grey background.

Inspired by carved ivory puzzle balls from China, I made a version without animal products. I dyed the paper yarn with indigo of various strengths to produce a colour gradient. #sculpturalbasketry #randomweave #indigo

Coral bleaching occurs when changes in temperature, light or nutrients cause the coral to expel the symbiotic algae living in their tissues, turning them white. Pics show finished piece and wip.

I spent hours carefully removing bindweed from gardens and using it to random weave 50 spherical pods. I hung these in an anticlockwise spiral formation to represent how bindweed grows.
